From its modest beginnings in 1967 as a retail pharmaceutical company, today Sunshine Holdings has crossed borders to become a public listed diversified conglomerate. Spearheaded by strong family values and ethics based on responsible entrepreneurship, the Company has a history of fostering long term human relationships.

Pioneering among industries such as Healthcare, Tea Exports, Retail, Renewable Energy, Agribusiness, Palm Oil, Dairy and Consumer Goods, the group employs over 11,000 personnel recording an annual revenue exceeding 21 billion.

Aiming towards becoming the most revered conglomerate of Sri Lanka, Sunshine Holdings has to its name many accolades including the honour of being recognised among the ‘Ten Most Admired Companies’ of the country.

Our Story

1991 - 1992

  • Joint Venture with Tata Tea (Tata Global Beverages) by setting up Estate Management services.

1996 - 1998

  • Acquired Watawala Plantations, a regional plantation company listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange.

2000

  • Entered into the Branded Tea business with “Zesta” Tea.

2005

  • Diversified into Printing and Packaging solutions for Beverages and Confectionery industry via acquisition of Sunshine Packaging Lanka Limited.

2008

  • Diversified into Telecommunications by acquiring 10% of Tata communications Lanka.
  • Aureos Capital acquired 25% stake in Sunshine Holdings.
  • Watawala Plantations achieved ‘Super Brand’ status.
  • Launched edible oil brand ‘Oliate’. Developed the first Palm Oil refinery by a Plantation company in Sri Lanka.

2010

  • Established Sunshine energy.

2011 - 2012

  • Commissioned the group’s first renewable Energy plant at Lower Waltrim mini-hydro plant.

2014

  • Launch of ‘Ran Kahata’ and ‘Zest’ water.

2016

  • Opening of the Zesta gift boutique at Liberty Plaza.

2017

  • Strategic partnership with SBI Japan to establish a country office in Sri Lanka (2017 - 2018)
  • Sole representative of 3M's Healthcare portfolio in Sri Lanka (2017 - 2018)

2018

  • Top 10 ‘Most Admired Companies of Sri Lanka’
  • Business Today - Top 30
  • Bronze Award - CA Annual Report Awards - 10 subsidiaries or more category

2019

2020
